Basketball

The Guardian Angels Basketball program is built upon attitude and effort, energy and enthusiasm, and being great teammates who help and encourage each other.

Benefits of Playing Basketball:

- Basketball can help develop fundamental movement skills.
- It's a type of workout that fluctuates in intensity.
- Gets children active at an early age, which can carry into adulthood.
- Can help improve communication skills through team building.

Team Selection:

  • Teams organized by grade level.
  • Aim for smaller teams for maximum playing time (3-4 teams per grade).
  • Blended teams in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades for balanced skill development.
  • Construct competitive teams in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades for GCCYS leagues.
  • Adapt team composition based on participation and skill levels.

Coaching:

  • Two adults required at every practice.
  • Seek two coaches per team from parent, parish, or alumni community.
  • Parent coaches allowed in grades 3-5.
  • A-team head coach not a parent in grades 6-8.
  • Parent coaches may lead B and C teams.

Boys Basketball: Offered for Grades 3-8. No prior experience is required. Sign-ups are in late August and evaluations are mid-October. Practice begins November 1st. Mid to Late November the league schedule is published. The regular season starts the 1st week of December and ends the 1st week of February. End of Season tournament is held in Mid-February.

Girls Basketball: Offered for Grades 3-8. No prior experience is required. Sign-ups are in late August and evaluations are mid-October. Practice begins November 1st.
